Gas Works Park is an amazing place to spend an afternoon or a romantic sunset, just outside of downtown Seattle. The mix of an old oil plant and beautiful Lake Union water views, is a sight unlike any other.

Where to Park
There is a small parking lot off Northlake Way that even on a busy weekend, we didn’t have trouble finding parking. There is also street parking nearby and of course you can always Lime Bike along the waterfront!
As you walk through the Gas Works Park make sure to walk up Kite Hill. There is a windy path that is not quite as steep and a steep straight shot, so choose your own adventure. The views from the top are so beautiful, you get a view of the Gasworks Park, Lake Union, and the beautiful Aurora Bridge. Bring a blanket and sit out in the grass while taking in the spectacular views. This would also be a perfect spot for a date night while watching the sun go down, believe us Seattle sunsets are like no other.
Gas Works Park
Any 10 Things I Hate About You fans?!? This is where the paintball scene was filmed. While you cannot actually go into the abandoned oil plant, you can definitely get some amazing pictures from Kite Hill and the waterfront. Towards the playground and the Ship Canal Bridge are some pipes that you can actually take pictures in front of, so get your insta ready for some amazing selfies!
Lake Union Views
A trip here would not be complete without taking in the beautiful water views of Lake Union. You also get a beautiful picture of the Seattle skyline complete with the Space Needle. If that isn’t enough you also get beautiful views all the way from the Aurora Bridge to the Ship Canal Bridge, so make sure to walk the whole waterfront. Keep your eyes out for seaplanes as this is a prime landing spot! We also love looking at all the beautiful houseboats towards the Ship Canal Bridge.
Gasworks Park also has a really nice outdoor playground for the kids. Playgrounds are few and far between in the Seattle area, and this one seems really nice and big!
The Seattle neighborhood of Fremont is definitely worth exploring! We absolutely love the bars and restaurants in this area! Not to mention there is an eclectic walking tour of this neighborhood complete with the Fremont Troll which was also featured in 10 Things I Hate About You.
Looking for more Seattle to explore? Check out our favorite drink spots in South Lake Union and Pioneer Square. If you are looking for other beautiful Seattle spots, check out the Amazon Spheres and Bainbridge Island.
Hotels can be very expensive in downtown Seattle, but you get the convenience of everything being in walking distance or a short Uber ride away. We absolutely loved our stay at the Thompson Hotel, they also have an amazing rooftop bar! The Thompson is a very trendy hotel with a very high end level of service.
We have also heard amazing things about the Edgewater Hotel, plus the view can’t be beat. We have had amazing luck with these hotels in other locations the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, W Seattle, and the Kimpton Palladian.
