If you want an experience that is unlike any other wine tasting, head to one of the amazing Del Dotto Winery locations where you can taste wine straight from the barrel. It is an experience that is hard to find and you will surely never forget.
Del Dotto Winery & Estate has three different winery locations, all with a different experience and ambiance. It is very worth your time to do a quick google image search of each of the different properties. We choose the Saint Helena location because of the beautiful architecture, gardens and over the top interior, very a la Italia.
When you arrive you will be greeted with a glass of wine while you walk around and take in the gorgeous interior. Make sure to also leave yourself time to walk around outside before or after your tasting for some amazing pictures of the estate and vineyards.
Also look out for the owner, Dave Del Dotto, who sometimes takes people on tours and is known for hanging around his wineries. He happened to be at the winery while we were taking a tour, unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to meet him, but from reviews it sounds like an experience all in itself.
Del Dotto is probably most famous for their cave tastings straight from the barrel. This is definitely an experience that I feel like you definitely have to enjoy at least once.
We enjoyed tasting the difference that different barrel types can make on the taste of wine. Being able to taste wines back to back really helps you understand the differences that soil, barrels, aging, and blends can affect the taste of wine. Our guide gave us great information about wine tasting in general, which was amazing since this was our first wine tasting of the weekend.
Linger a little Longer
At the end of the cave tasting they offer snacks to share with your group along with a tasting of their dessert wine. This is a great time to take some pictures of the lavish interior if you didn’t get a chance to at the beginning.
Other Winery Recommendations
There are an incredible amount of amazing wineries in Napa Valley, it can be a little overwhelming to decide where to go. We relied on a lot of recommendations and we absolutely loved our experiences at Nickel & Nickel, Caymus, Cakebread, Frog’s Leap and Far Niente.
