If you are visiting Napa Valley you must visit Nickel & Nickel winery for an exceptional wine tasting. Their single vineyard wines set them apart from the rest of Napa Valley and their tasting matches their exceptional wines.
Make sure to book a reservation early as this winery is by appointment only and fills up fast. This keeps the experience much more intimate and well worth the higher tasting price tag.
Nickel & Nickel Winery was one of the more extensive tours we had with a tasting. They give you a great history of the property and the family along with the knowledge of how they make their wines.
The Nickels are a husband and wife team from Muskogee, Oklahoma. So since our group of friends were all either born and bread Okies or have lived in Oklahoma we were pretty excited for this vineyard. We absolutely loved hearing the story from our guide of the Nickels and their love of wine. The Nickels are also big on preservation and the environment, so you will see restored barns and vintage cars mixed along with solar panels and ways to decrease their environmental footprint. Their outdoor area was more farm chic than many other Napa Vineyards, but was so elegant and made for some epic picture taking.
Wine caves make for some of the best pictures in Napa Valley. Nickel & Nickel Caves are no exception and I wish I could bottle the scent because they smell amazing. See my other favorite selfie spots in my Instagrammable Napa article.
One thing I love about their tasting is they do a thoughtful cheese pairing with each of the wines. It really helps you to see how the wines will taste with food and you can also see what types of food pair well with each wine.
They also print out your tasting menu with everyone in your parties name, so you have a great momento for your trip. This made it even more personable. Our wine guide was also amazing at recommending other wines we might like based on the wines we liked.
What Sets Them Apart
Their wines are all single vineyard wines, which means no blending. This is a very rare trait for wines and really shows the subtle differences that soils, climates, etc. can have on a wine. They set up their tastings to really highlight this and it really helps you to have a sense of what flavors and soil profiles you like in your wines.
Almost every winery in Napa will have a wine club for you to join, but there are a few things that I think made Nickel & Nickels Wine Club stand out. They refund your tastings from not only Nickel & Nickel, but also their other winery Far Niente, which is a huge savings right there. You also get their wine club pricing, which will definitely save you a lot, not to mention invites to amazing cave parties, which in my opinion are some of the pretties caves in the area.
Other Winery Recommendations
The owners of Nickel & Nickel also started Far Neinte Winery. This was by far the prettiest winery of our whole trip and I highly recommend a tasting here.
