The Gaslamp Quarter is an amazingly walkable area to grab food and drinks. Each restaurant & bar has different themes and vibes, so definitely walk around and pop into what looks good. There are so many good choices, it is hard to go wrong.
Mexican Food Must
San Diego has some seriously amazing Mexican Food, so make sure to get some while you are here! We had dinner at La Puerta. Most of the restaurants and bars in this area are smaller, so you might have to wait if you don’t go early or make a reservation (when you can). La Puerta has a frozen mojito that was absolutely to die for. I could’ve sat there all night drinking them.
Trailer Park After Dark
After some great food we went for drinks at Trailer Park After Dark. This place is in the basement, so it is a little hard to find, but it is truly amazing. The decor is one of a kind, there are shopping cart chairs, picnic tables, wheelbarrow chairs, you really just need to go check it out! They have a great drink and food menu, but the real winner is a simple PBR can served in a brown paper bag. Grab your drink and head to the back corner where they have old video games you can play like duck hunt.
My husband loves himself a pub and while nothing will compare to the real thing across the pond, Field Irish House is a perfect fix for his pub blues. You can’t go wrong with the laid back vibe and Guiness. If you are looking to try something different try Kilkenney beer, we had it in Kilkenney, Ireland and I actually like it more than Guiness, but don’t tell my husband, he LOVES Guiness.
Onto my husband and my other favorite love, WHISKEY. If you like whiskey, you absolutely have to hit up Whiskey House. The selection is absolutely incredible, they literally have a book as their whiskey list. The bartenders are super knowledgeable and can help you find the perfect drink to try!
There are seriously so many great choices in the Gaslamp Quarter, we definitely couldn’t make it to all of them on our list. So here are the ones we didn’t make it to, but will definitely be going to next time we go back. Cat Eye Club is a speakeasy tiki bar. This was the one bar we were the most disappointed we couldn’t hit because they have a 4 person treasure chest drink called Goonies Never Say Die. Make sure to do the truffle shuffle for me when you get this drink! The Shout House is a dueling piano bar, who doesn’t love a piano bar? They always have the best vibes. Sycamore Den has amazing 1970’s inspired decor that i feel like totally deserves a fun stop back in time. For a top rated speakeasy experience head on over to Noble Experiment. Another top rated bar with a view is The Nolan which is inside the Marriott Hotel., For a unique experience head over to The Tipsy Crow which is a stock market themed bar where the drink prices rise and fall on demand. I’m telling you the Gaslamp Quarter is a great way to spend your evening!
