From Seattle there are two ways to get to Leavenworth that are about the same time. Make sure at least one of the ways, you take Highway 2! The views are absolutely incredible and there are a ton of stop offs (that’s how we scored the picture above).
Highway 2 is our go to if the weather is nice or you want to see the leaves changing. FYI this is a mostly 1 lane windy highway, so take some Dramamine or ginger chews, and be ready to follow trucks or slow traffic. The views are worth the frustration. Also the earlier you go the better the traffic is! I-90 is our go to if the weather is bad or you don’t want to deal with traffic, as most of the way is 2 lanes.
What To Expect
If you are heading into Leavenworth later in the day, you will probably hit traffic when you get into town. Start looking for parking and be prepared to walk as the closer you get the worse the parking gets. You will also probably have to pay for parking, so bring a little cash.
Make sure to buy your entry ticket ahead of time, this will save you time in the line. They also do not accept credit cards the day of for entry tickets, so make sure to bring cash.
Once through the gates, you will need to head to the tents to buy drink and food tickets. You will use these tickets to buy beer and food from different vendors, here they accept both cash and card.
Know that the beer lines are very long and very slow, so think about double fisting, to save yourself time in line! Pro tip, the beer lines are shorter the further away from the entrance you get.
What to Do
Make sure you hit up the different bands located in the tents. Not only are the tents warm and have seating, but the music is super fun! We absolutely loved the bands! There are lots of tents, so find a program or wander around till you find a band and vibe you like! There are also lots of local craft and food vendors, so make sure to take your time walking around!
Explore the Town
The Oktoberfest celebration that you need tickets for, takes place in the parking lot in front of the Festhall. There is so much more to explore in Leavenworth than just the Oktoberfest celebration. So make sure to save yourself time to walk around and explore. Hungry? Hit up the famous Munchen Haus it’s worth waiting in line! There are tons of cute shops, restaurants, and bars all within walking distance, plus a picturesque mountain backdrop!
Where To Stay?
The Posthotel just opened and looks absolutely spectacular! They were all booked up for the weekend we went, but it is definitely on our list for next time. The view of the Wenatchee River is absolutely idilyc, not to mention the gorgeous spa and rooms to match the view. It’s definitely on the high end, but has nothing but amazing reviews.
Other hotels with amazing reviews, Enzian Inn has some amazing amenities in both summer and winter, including a put put course, pool, spa, and complimentary cross country ski rentals, plus an Alpanhorn concert! The Bavarian Lodge offers beautiful suites with mountain views with amenities like pool and hot tubs, you really can’t go wrong. Looking for a true German experience, head to Hotel Pension Anna where the devil is in the details. A stay here includes an authentic German breakfast along with beautiful authentic German decor.
Have a large group? We all absolutely loved the Alpine River House! This is the view from your balcony. Can’t beat it! We absolutely loved sitting outside drinking coffee and listening to the rushing water. There is also a hot tub and fire pit with the same view, it’s incredible!
